M.G. University, established as the fifth University in Kerala, is today the largest of all the seven universities based in the State. It made its beginning on 02nd October, 1983 and was inaugurated on 26th October 1983, by the President of India.

The university is funded by the University Grants Commission and Government of Kerala. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The Association of Commonwealth Universities represents over 480 universities from Commonwealth countries.

Accredited B+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, India, M.G.  University has 72 off campus centers — 55 centers within Kerala, 9 outside Kerala and at 8 global locations. The university has 223 affiliated colleges spread over five districts in central Kerala.

The University spread over an areas of 110 acres of land offers, through affiliated colleges, covering five district in central Kerala, 410 graduate, post graduate, M. Phil/PhD courses in various fields; enrolling approximately 1,50,000, students on an average every year.

With the intention of moving to a strong International podium for global recognition the University has tied with a good number of quality overseas Universities.

M.G. University is easy to get to. The Campus is 13 kilometers from Kottayam Railway Station and 04 Kilometers from Ettumanoor Railway Station.  The nearest airport is the Nedumbassery International Airport at Cochin, 80 kilometers away.
